How to apply for shipment of waste

If waste isn't listet on Annex III of the Regulation and thereby can be shipped to recovery on a Annex VII, then the shipment has to be notified to the national competent authority.

Decision about validity of tacit consent to shipments within the European Union

Denmark usually gives tacit consent to shipments in transit through Denmark, when countries of dispatch and of destination are both within the Union. You may also the tacit consent of Denmark to be valid within the period of validity of other countries' consents. Note that the validity of the tacit consent from Denmark does not prejudge the validity of other countries' tacit consents. Check in with other competent authorities for the validity of their tacit consents.

We do not give message to stakeholders of this validity period of the tacit consent. If you ship waste and send a transport on its way before the 30 days has expired, we recommend you bring a print of this page for documentation og the tacit consent of Denmark. You are also welcome to contact us for confirmation. 

Documentation for registration

From the 1 st October 2013, the Danish EPA requests further documentation from the intended carriers mentioned in the notifications concerning shipments of waste. All intended carriers for road transport of waste in Denmark must be registered in the Danish National Waste Register, either as carriers or waste collectors. The required documentation must be enclosed to the notifications.

The Danish EPA requests the evidence of registration of the intended carriers in the Danish National Waste Register according to Annex II, part 1, n o 15 of the Waste Shipment Regulation 1013/2006.
The Danish EPA requests that

  • detailed information on which carrier(s) will carry out the shipment of waste on the Danish roads must appear from the enclosed list of the intended carriers.
  • documentation for registration in the Danish National Waste Register must be enclosed. This documentation may be a printout from the Danish National Waste Register, of the current calendar year showing that the company is registered.

If the above-mentioned requirements are not enclosed to the notification, the Danish EPA will consider the notification as not properly completed. The notification will therefore not be processed immediately by the screening process.

Please be aware that all waste carriers with their own trucking permit shall be registered in the Danish National Waste Register. It is the trucking company which is actually carrying out the shipments of waste for which the registration requirement is imposed.

Import of waste to Danish hazardous waste incinerators - requirements for R1 classification

When hazardous waste is imported to Denmark for recovery (R1) certain requirements are to be fulfilled. Also certain requirements concerning documentation need to be fulfilled. If these requirements are not fulfilled the notification cannot be considered properly completed by the Danish EPA. The requirements apply for all types of facilities incinerating hazardous waste. For competitive reasons, the same requirements apply when hazardous waste is exported for recovery (R1).

New Procedure for submissions regarding completion of movement documents

Please note that the Danish Environmental Protection Agency has decided that submissions regarding completion of the movement document (Annex 1B) according to Article 16 of Regulation 1013/2006 on Shipments of Waste must be done by means of e-mail.
This means as of Monday the 17th of May 2010, you have to use the following e-mail address when submitting information regarding completion of the movement document: Obfuscated Email . Please send the documents in PDF-form.

  • The Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has decided that from June the 1 st 2010 all notifiers regarding transport of waste out of Denmark have to have a Danish business- or private address.

Documents for the use in a notification

The notification of shipment of waste consist of several documents among other the notification document, the movement document, a contract and a financial guarantee. For information on filling out the notification documents, please look into Annex 1C (EUR-lex) and Annex II (EUR-lex).
