About extended Producer Responsibility
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) means that companies are subject to special environmental obligations for the products they place on the Danish market. The overall purpose of EPR is to encourage businesses to adopt greener solutions. In Denmark, several product categories are covered by producer Responsibility (see overview below). The EPR regulations for each product category are legal requirements that companies are obliged to understand and comply with.
What does it mean for companies?
If a company is subject to EPR, it means that the company must cover the costs of handling the products they have made available on the market once the products become waste. EPR may also include environmental requirements related to product design and material selection, as well as financial incentives to promote the use of environmentally friendly and easily recyclable materials.
Product categories covered by EPR
In Denmark the following categories are subject to EPR:
• Packaging
• Electrical and electronic equipment
• Batteries
• Single-use plastic products
• Fishing gear containing plastic
• Vehicles
It is your company’s responsibility to familiarize yourself with the Danish rules and investigates whether your company have responsibilities in relation to the Danish EPR schemes.
