Inspection of Research Facilities

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency carries out inspections to ensure that there are no potential hazard of an accidental release of GMOs to the surrounding environment.

The EPA has inspection duty with respect to the following:

  • General provision in the law of environment and gene technology.
  • Prerequisites for terms of approvals of the law.
  • Compliance of injunctions and prohibitions of the law.

The facilities in research institutions and companies, where the Environmental Protection Agency has been involved in the approval, are regularly inspected. The EPA inspects facilities to ensure the containment measures are in compliance with the executive order on approval of production with genetically modified organisms (In Danish).

Inspections of research facilities (laboratories, storage etc.) are not fee charged.
