7th EU Environmental Action Programme

The EU's 7th Environmental Action Programme (EAP) is one of the main priorities of the Danish Presidency and will replace the 6th EAP, which expires in July 2012. The 7th EAP is necessary for ongoing strategic management of key environmental issues in the EU.

Green growth, green economy, resource efficiency and protection of natural capital are topics that concerns both the environmental and economic challenges EU are facing, and which contains political momentum for promotion in the EU and globally. Furthermore, a further implementation of existing environmental policies have a high priority. 

The Environmental Action Plan will:

• establish the overall direction for environmental policy development in the EU
• establish specific priorities, measures and targets for a coherent environmental policy in the coming years
• ensure interaction with i.a. the EU 2020 strategy, including its flagship initiatives
