Control with the registration of slaked lime at Mortar Mills

Control with the registration of slaked lime at Mortar Mills

In 2010, the Chemical Inspection Service controlled if Mortar Mills had pre-registered or registered their slaked lime which is produced in connection with the production of mortar. This is a legal requirement according to REACH.

A random check showed that most Mortar Mills were not aware that they had to pre-register. The Chemical Inspection Service in cooperation with the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) and the Danish Lime and Brick Association produced an information letter which was sent to all Mortar Mills in Denmark. The letter informed the Mills about their registration obligation, and informed them about the up-coming control campaign. Furthermore, the Mills were invited to seek advice with DI and the Lime and Brick Association.

During the summer the Mortar Mills were busy registering their slaked lime or otherwise making sure their production was legal. Therefore, the Chemical Inspection Service only made one inspection visit.
