Control of nickel release from hair clips

Control of nickel release from hair clips

In the spring 2010, the Chemical Inspection Service completed a campaign on release of nickel from hair clips for children. Hair clips, which are intended to be in direct and sustained contact with the skin, are included in the Nickel Rules. The results of the spot checking showed that all the hair clips which were analysed complied with the rules.

The Chemical Inspection Service selected 33 hair clips from grocery shops, internet shops, baby equipment shops and jewellery and accessories shops. The hair clips were analysed for nickel release by the standards EN 12472 and EN 1811.
