Supplier requirements for sustainable textile production

Establishing the Nordic textile industry as a leader in sustainability is expected to make it more competitive on the global market. New guidelines will help fashion and textile businesses to make relevant and uniform sustainability demands on suppliers.

The project aims at uncovering concrete tools and plans of action for fashion and textile businesses to make sustainability demands on their suppliers and subcontractors, specifically with regards to the use of chemicals, and to make uniform minimum requirements for textile production.

Nordic industry stakeholders were invited to a workshop in May 2016 to discuss needs and wishes for the initiative and to explore the potential for establishing voluntary industry agreements.

The project is expected to run from December 2016 to November 2017.
